Duke Health is seeking Nocturnist Hospitalist Physicians for our Oncology Service line. These clinicians provide clinical care for adult oncology patients admitted at Duke University Hospital during the overnight shift of 7pm - 7am, including admissions and transfers. Our position involves 10 shifts per month. Moonlighting opportunities are available.

We seek candidates who possess:

  • BC/BE in Internal Medicine
  • BC/BE in Hematology and/or Oncology is preferred, but not required.
  • Hospitalist and/or Hematology/Oncology experience preferred but we welcome new resident/fellow applicants

At times, the Oncology Nocturnist Hospitalist may need to engage in direct patient care activities. Patient care activities will include, but are not be limited to:

  • Assessment, evaluation, pain and symptom management, care planning and modification, medications/therapeutic recommendations, and medical decision making.
  • Direct contact and consultation with patient family members, friends, advocates, and others to ensure effective communication of patient status and care plans, and to encourage/support an open visitor- friendly environment within the medical/hospital environment.
  • Extensive and on-going communications with primary oncology teams who routinely manage the cancer care of patients in the outpatient setting.
  • Day-to-day patient contact/rounding/care management that actively encourages and includes professional input from all members of the interdisciplinary team.
  • Accurate and timely completion of all clinical and professional records and documentation to assure compliance with local, state and federal regulatory, licensure and accreditation requirements.
  • Work to create a positive work culture within cross-departmental teams and align this work with other Oncology initiatives.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
