About the Role:
The King County (KC) Wastewater Treatment Division (WTD) is hiring a West Offsite Operations and Maintenance team leader. In this role, you will have a team of 29 operators and facilities maintenance professionals. You will oversee the planning and processes for our west offsite wet weather facilities, including Georgetown Wet Weather Station, manage the maintenance of our offsite and West Point facilities, and be an active member of the O&M Leadership Team.
This is a leadership role, and it will serve on the Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Leadership Team. The team is responsible for the O&M strategic planning, developing leadership skills among our supervisors, providing growth opportunities for our staff members, and implementing metrics that deliver on key performance indicators that measure our progress.
The Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Section of the Wastewater Treatment Division (WTD) ensures safe, environmentally protective wastewater treatment for King County: We serve 34 wholesale customers and approximately 2 million residents. O&M includes five treatment facilities and 48 pump stations. We manage 400 miles of conveyance pipes and treat an average of 178MGD of wastewater annually. As a clean water agency, we recover resources such as biosolids, recycled water, and biogas, and we continually seek new ways to capture beneficial resources that would otherwise be lost.

You will be a key part of one of King County's largest, most complex capital programs with a variety of interesting, challenging, and critical projects. You will be supporting the growth and strategic development of the largest capital program in King County with projects and programs stretching across 2200 square miles.

What You Will Be Doing:
- Provide leadership to West Offsite Operations team and West Point Facilities team, participating in the development and implementation of the strategic direction of the section, developing and motivating staff, setting team goals, organizing and delegating tasks, and effectively communicating across O&M teams.
- Assist the section manager in the daily operation of wastewater conveyance and offsite treatment facilities and on-and offsite facilities maintenance, including providing planning, analytical and project management support for assigned work and projects.
- Represent the section in the planning and implementation of programs for maintaining the assets of surface water, storm water and wastewater treatment and conveyance systems.
Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills
Qualifications You Bring:
- Experience in leading teams that includes skills in team building, building consensus and working effectively with a diverse team.
- Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of wastewater treatment and conveyance systems, including the regulations and requirements as they relate to operation and maintenance of these facilities.
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of engineering and systems operation.
- Knowledge of budget techniques and principles.
- Knowledge of project management principles and techniques.
- Knowledge of labor relations principles, practices, and techniques.
- Skill in writing and communicating technical and non-technical information; Skill in reading and interpreting technical information and making presentations to non-technical and technical audiences
- Skill in negotiation techniques and principles.
- Effective decision-making skills
- Knowledge of current and possible future policies, practices, trends, technology, and information affecting the wastewater treatment industry.
- Group IV Wastewater Operator's Certification
- Washington State Driver's License or the ability to provide timely or emergency transportation to work locations with limited or no public transportation.

Supplemental Information
Working Conditions:
- On-site at the Jameson Bldg. and West Point Treatment Plant - Employees in this role work primarily onsite, may have the opportunity to work 1 - 2 days from a home location dependent on business needs.
- Requirement: Employees must reside in Washington State and be within a reasonable distance to King County worksites to meet onsite reporting requirements.

- West Point Treatment Plant, 1400 Discovery Park Blvd., Seattle, WA
- Work Schedule: This position is exempt from the overtime provision of the Fair Labor Standard Act (FLSA) and is not overtime eligible. This full-time position works a 40-hour work week. Monday through Friday, core hours are 6:00 am - 3:00 pm.
- Union Representation: This position is represented by the Teamster, Local 117. Pursuant to Western Conference of Teamsters Pension Trust $2.00 per hour from the base wage will be submitted to the Western Conference of Teamsters Pension Trust Fund.
- Duration: This recruitment aims to fill a Special Duty Assignment with an anticipated length of 3-to-4-months.
