Northmarq is seeking an Underwriter to join an active and successful Agency team to provide quality control and training to regional offices related to underwriting, due diligence, closing and various support functions related to Freddie Mac conventional loans. The candidate will work closely with a diverse group including originators, underwriters, closers, borrowers, Freddie Mac, legal counsel, vendors, and asset management to keep all informed of a loan's current status/progress. Position requires an organized, detail-oriented person with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
*This position is an in-office position, with an immediate start date.
Position Responsibilities:
Analytical Skills
- Support regional debt teams in obtaining quotes on Freddie Mac conventional loans; assist the debt team to structure the most beneficial deal for the Borrower.
- Review preliminary and final investment briefs and the underwriting template to ensure compliance with Freddie Mac requirements. Provide feedback to ensure efficient processing and timely response from Freddie Mac.
- Analyze operating history, budget, property rent roll, and other financial information to verify the proforma and loan request aligns with Freddie Mac guidelines
- Review Borrower structure to determine required principal due diligence and complete org chart to meet lender requirements
- Review and analyze Key Borrower Principal's real estate schedule, financial statements, and enhanced due diligence documents when necessary
- Review third party reports to ensure compliance with lender guidelines (appraisal, environmental, engineering, zoning, etc.)
- Review due diligence materials for accuracy
- Plan and schedule workload to best utilize time and efficiently manage multiple deals at various stages while ensuring prompt and accurate customer service
- Draft Applications, Commitments, and Rate Lock Agreements
- Maintain updated checklists and Salesforce pipeline as the deal moves through the process
- Review due diligence materials for accuracy with assistance from senior team members
- Coordinate with internal insurance team and Freddie Mac to obtain insurance approval, including waiver approval, if necessary
- Assist in written and oral responses to internal and external parties
- Coordinate closing of the transaction between debt team, attorneys, title company
- Coordinate with Northmarq servicing on payoffs, supplemental loans, and post-closing matters
- Participate in kick-off calls, or calls with debt teams and lender and/or legal
- Additional duties may be assigned as department grows
- Performs special projects to support the company as needed
- Minimum of 2-5 years of experience in real estate financial analysis with multifamily experience preferred
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably with major in real estate finance, business administration or accounting
- Familiarity with Freddie Mac and/or Fannie Mae multifamily loan programs a plus
- Excellent analytical skills and underwriting related experience
- Effective professional oral and written communication skills
- Ability to work both independently and within a team, with minimal supervision
- Demonstrated work ethic and willingness to work extended hours when necessary
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple assignments while meeting deadlines
- Client service oriented
- Problem-solving skills to reflect level of responsibilities
- Ability to maintain sensitive and confidential information
- Ability to maintain positive attitude in all situations
- Strong computer knowledge with Microsoft Office applications, in particular Word, Excel and Adobe. Salesforce proficiency a plus.
