Position Summary
Reporting to the Director of Airport Development - Project Initiation, the Sustainable Design and Certification Manager will work closely with the Project Delivery team to guide sustainability certification for capital projects from inception to final completion. The position is responsible for the certification of assigned Commission-approved development projects at the Minneapolis - St. Paul International Airport (MSP) and the six reliever airports. Technical responsibilities include working directly with architectural, engineering, and construction management consultants and overseeing the certification (LEED, Envision, etc.) of CIP projects. In addition, this position will work closely with other MAC departments, municipalities, and other governmental jurisdictions as required.

Project Certification
- Integrate MAC's mission, vision, values and strategic goals into all areas of responsibility.
- Develop, document, and maintain standards, processes, procedures, and workflows for project certification.
- Assist design and construction teams with sustainable design strategies and technologies for buildings and sites.
- Participate in design reviews and serve as the primary contact with the project delivery team for LEED or other sustainability certification work during construction. Manage the basis of design as it pertains to LEED or other sustainability certification.
- Oversee entire sustainability certification documentation process during construction and review project documentation/submittals to determine compliance with sustainable certification requirements.
- Perform administrative duties for specific LEED or other sustainable certification rating systems and programs, as necessary.
- Process relevant fees for building and civil infrastructure registration and certification (USGBC, Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure, etc.)
- Effectively communicate LEED or other sustainable certification program requirements and progress to project teams.
- Ensure design and construction strategies are implemented and documented according to the relevant LEED criteria (certified, Silver, Gold etc.) set by the US Green Building Council, or other sustainable certification criteria (Envision, etc.).
- Collect and review all LEED or other sustainability certification documentation and ensure that all required forms and supporting documentation are submitted to the appropriate certifying authority (USGBC, etc.).
- Partner with the sustainability department to implement measures to collect sustainability data and calculate the impact of LEED or other sustainable designs on relevant projects.
- Demonstrate creativity, foresight and mature judgment in anticipating and solving project problems.
- Maintain a general understanding of all active projects at MSP and the reliever airports.
- Serve as a technical specialist for various assignments and tasks relating to, but not limited to, airport and aviation facilities.
- Collaborate with architects, engineers, and other construction and building specialists to resolve certification problems.
- Remain current on trends in sustainable design and construction in the airport and aviation industry.
- Prepare staff reports and project specific memoranda as necessary for the director or commission meetings.
Departmental
- Participate as a member of the airport development team to ensure sustainable certification requirements are incorporated into the decision-making process.
- Recommend sustainable construction strategies for capital projects to the airport development project managers and/or director.
- Assist in the design/planning/review of architectural projects completed by airport tenants or other agencies that have potential impacts on MAC airports.
- Provide technical expertise and staff assistance as requested.
- Provide effective credible representation of the department's activities to the public, airport users, airport tenants, consultants, contractors, and when necessary, the board of commissioners.
- Participate in the airport development continuing consultant annual performance reviews.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor's degree in architecture, engineering, construction management, sustainability or a related field
- Four years of experience in sustainability certification of buildings (LEED, B3, or similar certification program)
- In lieu of a degree, eight years of experience in sustainability certification of buildings (LEED, B3, or similar certification program)
- LEED project experience concurrently managing multiple projects at various stages
- Experience collaborating with design and construction teams to achieve sustainable design goals
- Experience reading drawings, specifications, and product documentation (SDS, product certifications, etc.)
- Intermediate skill level using Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel
DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS
- LEED AP Building Design + Construction accreditation (LEED AP BD+C)
- Minnesota registered/licensed architect or professional engineer
- Experience with civil sustainability certification programs (Envision or similar)
- Airport project experience at a medium or large hub airport
- Experience with SharePoint, Submittal Exchange, Oracle Prime, JD Edwards or other construction management tools
- Experience working with building officials and/or permitting and code requirements
- Valid state driver's license and a reliable vehicle to commute between work sites
Other Information
This position provides an opportunity for on-site and remote work. MAC's remote work policy requires employees to be on-site three days of the week. Among the three on-site days, one of them must be either a Monday or a Friday.
