We are launching brand new products and product lines at National Grid, and as a Staff Software Engineer, you'll be there at the inception! Our products go through a validation phase, where we answer the question: "What is the business problem we are trying to solve", and together with your product/design/UX/business counterparts, you'll be responsible for narrowing the scope, defining a solution, and working with your team to solve it.
We want to find an innovative, adaptable, and results-oriented Senior Software Engineer for our US Electric business unit.This position can be located inWaltham, MA, Brooklyn, NY, Hicksville, NY, or Syracuse, NY (candidates may also reside in either Connecticut, New Jersey, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, or Maine). What you'll do
As a Staff Software Engineer, you'll take on a critical role of turning business needs into technology solutions specifically working within our US Electric organization. Key responsibilities include the following:
- Hands-on contributions with code development
- Gain visibility and recognition across the organization for technical competence and leadership.
- Lead the architectural design of complex systems.
- Write well-designed, testable, scalable, and efficient code.
- Provide contributions to the engineering organization.
- Provide leadership for the integration of software components into a fully functional software system.
- Collaborate with business and technical stakeholders on the development of digital products.
- Work with other Staff Engineers and Engineering Management to define IT standards, procedures, and process.
- Provide support and mentorship to the engineering team and engineering org.
- Collaborate with teams on other products and business units on technology.
About you
- 8+ years of experience in software development as a developer
- Ability to collaborate with cross functional teams.
- Hands on technical experience with Python,.Net Core, PostgreSQL, Azure, GitHub
- Several years of technical contribution and leadership in a structured team environment
- Ability to mentor other engineers.
- Ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
- Strong knowledge of the agile software development process
- Practical experience in building and using RESTful APIs.
- Solid communication and documentation skills

Salary
Dowstate NY $152,000 - $200,000 a year
Massachusetts $142,000 - $185,000 a year
Upstate NY$127,000 - $165,000 a year
Salary is commensurate with experience and location
This position has a career path which provides for advancement opportunities within and across bands as you develop and evolve in the position; gaining experience, expertise and acquiring and applying technical skills. Candidates will be assessed and provided offers against the minimum qualifications of this role and their individual experience.
