The mission of the Department of Sports Medicine is to is to provide the highest quality Athletic Health Care to meet the needs of the NCAA Intercollegiate Athletics program and its student-athletes. Position Summary
This is a full time, 12 month, position that is responsible to assist the Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine in the supervision, prevention, care, management and disposition of injuries and illnesses sustained by all varsity student athletes regardless of race, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, or ethnicity.We are committed to creating a community that fosters equity of experience and opportunity, and ensures that students, faculty, and staff of all backgrounds feel safe, welcome, and included. SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports to the Assistant Athletics Director for Sports Medicine and Sports Performance, receives direction from designated Team Physician and Director of Athletics.
SUPERVISON EXERCISED: Supervises subordinate professional personnel assigned to area, as well as athletic training students in accordance with Athletic Training Education Programs and the Athletic Training/Sports Medicine Department
This is an exempt, APA unit position and is subject to the terms of that union agreement.
Essential Duties
CORE DUTIES:- Assist the Assistant Athletics Director for Sports Medicine and Sports Performance in the supervision, prevention, care, management, and disposition of injuries and illnesses sustained by all varsity student-athletes regardless of race, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion or ethnicity.
- Assist the Assistant Athletics Director for Sports Medicine and Performance with year-round program development, and advancement.
- Recognize and supervise the prevention, care, management of injuries and illnesses to a diverse community of student-athletes, including the coverage of team practices and contests.
- Assist the Assistant Athletics Director for Sports Medicine and Performance in the management of the Athletic Training/Sports Medicine facilities, including upholding established policies, rules, regulations, and procedures.
- Exercises the supervision of the student-athletes, athletic training students, field work students and athletic training hourly staff members as appropriate.
- Maintains appropriate documentation of all injuries and illnesses to student-athletes.
- Maintains current knowledge and skills of standards of practice in the field of Athletic Training/Sports Medicine as established by the NATA, NCAA, and other appropriate, recognized organizations.
- Advise in the purchasing, proper use, and proper fit of protective equipment.
- Assist the Assistant Athletics Director for Sports Medicine and Performance in budget preparation, as well as inventory and supply management.
- Assist the Assistant Athletics Director for Sports Medicine and Performance with Medical Clearance that is initiated during July and continues year-round.
- Assist the Assistant Athletics Director for Sports Medicine and Performance in implementation and maintenance of the electronic medical record and injury tracking program.
- Assist the Assistant Athletics Director for Sports Medicine and Performance in annual review and updates of sports medicine policies and procedures, including staff and student education.
- Assist the Assistant Athletics Director for Sports Medicine and Performance in the hiring and supervising work study students for the Sports Medicine department.
- Develop learning opportunities for students and staff regarding current topics in Sports Medicine and Performance.
- Collaborates with and advises Sports Performance staff regarding sports specific programming including modifications for injury trends with teams and specific student athletes.
- Year-round continuing education unit acquisition and professional development for the maintenance of professional certifications.
- Manage social media with relevant topics in sports medicine, performance, and sports medicine programming year-round.
GENERAL DUTIES:
- Perform related duties as required.
- Plan and implement assessment efforts that inform data driven decision making for the programs, services, and activities within your core duties.
- Develop and implement intentional programs, services, and activities within your core duties that will meet the unique needs of all student populations.
- Utilize diversity and social justice practices to promote student success as it relates to your core duties.
- Assist the Office of Equal Opportunity /Title IX Coordinator office as a responsible employee with regard to incidents of sexual or gender-based harm or discrimination.
Required Qualifications

- Certification by the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA-BOC) required

- Minimum of one year of experience in a related field required
- Knowledge of theory/practice of athletic training
- Ability to understand written and oral communication.
- Ability to work evening, weekends, and holidays as playing and practice season schedule dictates.
- Ability to lift 25 lbs. with appropriate accommodation
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's Degree in related field
- 2-3 years' experience in a related field preferred
- Current certification as Strength and Conditioning specialist/coach (NSCA-CSCS or CSCCa)
