Position Summary
The Senior Accountant plays an important role in maintaining the financial health of our organization. This position ensures the accuracy and integrity of our financial records with the preparation and review of financial transactions and statements. As part of the MAC Finance team, this position works in the accounting and business functional areas with accounting research, financial reporting, account reconciliation and many more projects.

Account Reconciliations and Monthly Close
- Monthly reconciliation of investment and debt service accounts
- Perform moderately complex account reconciliations
- Prepare and process journal entries to record financial transactions
- Research anomalies and discrepancies on a timely basis
- Verify account corrections and/or adjustments are made on a timely basis
- Support the monthly general ledger close process
- Identify, research and interpret Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) and Government Accounting Standards Board (GASB) pronouncements as they relate to the Commission
- Support the annual audit with the preparation of audit workpapers and work closely with the external auditors
- Assist in the preparation of the MAC's Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR)
- Research account variance to budget and document causes for monthly reporting to the Commission
- Maintain records related to compliance with GASB 68 (Pensions), GASB 74/75 (OPEB), and GASB 87 (Leases)
- Assist in updating department and finance related organizational policies and procedures
- Provide feedback or make recommendations for policy and process improvements
- Participate in or potentially lead accounting projects as assigned
- Perform ad hoc reporting and analysis as needed
- Assist with grant related projects and reporting
- Assist with the preparation, review, and publication of the MAC's annual budget document
- Other duties and projects as assigned

- Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, Business Administration or any other related field
- Five years of progressive accounting experience
- In lieu of a degree, nine years of progressive accounting experience
- Account reconciliation experience
- Intermediate skill level using Microsoft Excel and Word
- Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and practices
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills including the ability to analyze, interpret and report financial data
- Ability to multi-task and complete assignments under pressure and within deadlines
DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or other professional accounting certifications/designations
- Financial reporting experience
- Experience using JD Edwards EnterpriseOne software
- Basic skill level using Microsoft Office and Teams
