WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE TOGETHER
The Conservation Land Steward will work with the NNY Conservation Lands Manager to steward over 20,000 acres of TNC preserves in Northern and Central New York. The position is primarily field-based, with some data entry and basic GIS work on occasion. The Conservation Land Steward will work closely with The Nature Conservancy's Stewardship Team members and may assist partner organizations as needed.
The Nature Conservancy is hiring one temporary Conservation Land Steward to be based out of the Pulaski, NY Field Office.
The geographical area covered includes the Tug Hill, Eastern Lake Ontario, the Thousand Islands and the western edge of the Adirondack Park.
WE'RE LOOKING FOR YOU
Preserve Stewardship, conservation easement stewardship, and facilities management. Tasks include boundary marking and maintenance; trail construction and maintenance; parking lot maintenance; and routine mowing of trails, grounds and wildlife habitats. Conservation Land Stewards will interact with the public, volunteers, adjacent landowners and stakeholders. Tasks may include property monitoring, GIS data collection and conservation easement project documentation assistance.
Conservation Management: Assist Conservation Team with managing and monitoring of conservation targets. Specific management targets depend upon location but may include shorebird protection; forest management; and invasive species management. Tasks may include scientific field data collection; monitoring of wildlife habitat and/or forest health; and assisting with preparation of reports.
Conservation Land Stewards will spend most of their time working outside in the field. Stewards will be expected to work independently and to drive to field sites that may be several hours away from their base location. Training will be provided for all tasks. Conservation Land Stewards will have ample opportunities to learn new skills and gain experience in the fields of conservation and land management.
WHAT YOU'LL BRING
* High school diploma or GED and 1 year's training in science-related field or related experience in land management.
* Experience operating various types of equipment in a safe and efficient manner (e.g. lawn mower, chainsaw, UTV, ATV or OHV, two-way radio, or similar equipment).
* Must be able to obtain related licenses or certifications as required. (e.g. First Aid, CPR).
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
* Multi-lingual skills and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience appreciated.
* 1 - 2 years' experience in land management or related field.
* Experience working with or knowledge of natural systems.
* Ability to obtain driver's license and maintain a good driving record.
* Ability to follow instructions from colleagues/coworkers/team members.
* PC and/or mobile device familiarity, including database knowledge or understanding.

SALARY INFORMATION
The starting pay range for a candidate selected for this position is generally $21.00 dollars hourly rate. This range only applies to candidates whose country of employment is the USA. Where a successful candidate's actual pay will fall within this range will be based on a variety of factors, including, for example, the candidate's location, qualifications, specific skills, and experience. Please note countries outside the USA would have a different pay range in the local currency based on the local labor market, and not tied to USA pay or ranges.
