WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE TOGETHER
The Prescribed Fire & Land Management Tech (PFLMT) will work in the Agassiz Beach Ridges and Sheyenne Delta Landscapes in the Northern Tallgrass Prairie Ecoregion (western Minnesota and eastern North Dakota, respectively) as part of a crew managing prairie tracts and restorations as well as being responsible for preparation and implementation of prescribed fire at various nature preserves in these landscapes. Technician duties will include vegetation management (herbicide applications, brush removal, tree removal, mowing, biological control, etc.), equipment maintenance and organization, hand collecting native prairie seed, firebreak installation, boundary posting, fencing and assist with prescribed fires.
The PFLMT participates in prescribed fire operations which include ignition, control, mop-up, suppression, monitoring, and other tasks as assigned. They will participate in preparing fire lines, maintaining equipment, post-burn monitoring and other tasks. As part of the Technician's ongoing professional development, they will be responsible for keeping abreast of new burn techniques and equipment to enhance skills and maintain/grow professional fire certification credentials.
This position occasionally requires irregular hours, travel on short notice and the ability to work weekends during the fire season. May work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain, and under physically demanding circumstances.

RESPONSIBILITIES & SCOPE
- May help plan and direct preserve work groups, including staff or volunteers.
- Maintain preserve areas frequented by the visiting public
- Remove exotic species and/or species monitoring (including use of herbicides)
- Prescribed burn preparation, implementation, and post-burn monitoring
- Maintain tools and equipment
- Brush and tree removal
- Seed harvest
- Photo and vegetation monitoring
- Other preserve management activities
- All TNC staff actively participating on a prescribed burn must be qualified as a FFT2. The Preserve Management Assistant will participate in prescribed burns, preparing fire lines, maintaining equipment, post-burn monitoring and other tasks.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING
- High school diploma and 6 months of related experience.
- Must be able to obtain the qualifications for Prescribed Fire Crew Member (RXCM) or Fire Fighter Type 2 (FFT2), including Introduction to ICS (I-100), Human Factors on the Fire line (L-180), IS-700.B An Introduction to the National Incident Management System, Introduction to Wildland Fire Behavior (S-190), Firefighting Training (S-130), and one training burn serving under the supervision of a qualified FFT2 as a requirement for this position. - Must achieve physical fitness standard as determined by local Fire Program Manager and the TNC Fire Manual.
- Experience operating various types of equipment.
- Must be able to obtain related licenses or certifications as required. (e.g. First Aid, CPR).

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Multi-lingual skills and multicultural or cross-cultural experience appreciated.
- 6 months -1 year of related experience.
- Have the ability to obtain a DOT (Dept Of Transportation) Health card.
- Experience operating various types of equipment in a safe and efficient manner (e.g. Lawn mower, chainsaw, UTV, ATV or OHV, two-way radio, or similar equipment).
- Ability and willingness to follow instructions from colleagues.

ADDITIONAL JOB INFORMATION
This position is based on a 40-hour work week, but may require irregular hours, long days, and travel on short notice.
Housing is provided free of charge in possibly mixed gender facilities for the full term of employment. If you already have housing in the area within a reasonable distance, wages may be adjusted to reflect that. Transportation from TNC office to the various preserves will be provided by TNC.
This position is based near Glyndon, MN. The salary range is $16.00 to $18.50 per hour. There are two (2) openings for this position. One position will run from April 21 to September 26, 2025 and the other will run from April 21 to November 7, 2025

SALARY INFORMATION
The starting pay range for a candidate selected for this position is generally within the range of $16.00 to $18.50 hourly rate. This range only applies to candidates whose country of employment is the USA. Where a successful candidate's actual pay will fall within this range will be based on a variety of factors, including, for example, the candidate's location, qualifications, specific skills, and experience. Please note countries outside the USA would have a different pay range in the local currency based on the local labor market, and not tied to USA pay or ranges. Your geographic location will be confirmed during the recruitment.
