Full Job Description

Summary

This announcement is open until the vacancy is filled. It may be extended or closed prior to the closing date. This position serves as the Physician (Administration) also known as the Clinical Director for the Wewoka Indian Health Center in Wewoka, OK. The Clinical Director is responsible for the administration of the clinical programs and quality of medical care rendered. The position reports to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Wewoka Service Unit.

Duties

  • Participates as a leader in the formulation of policies, programs, and procedures related to provision of clinical services.
  • Directly supervises licensed practitioners and support staff as delegated by the CEO.
  • Responsible for assuring timely credentialing, privileging, and appropriate medical staff membership for all licensed independent practitioners.
  • Manages recruitment and retention of medical staff members.
  • Provides patient care services under current medical licensure.

This is a designated position covered by Public Law 101-630, requiring contact or control over Indian children. Due to this requirement, the agency must ensure that persons hired for these positions have not been found guilty of or pleaded nolo contendere or guilty to certain crimes.

A one-year supervisory/managerial probationary period may be required upon selection/placement.

Measles and Rubella immunization required for selectees born after 1957 and seasonal influenza immunization is required for all staff working in Indian Health Service health care facilities.

COVID-19 vaccination is required for all selectees prior to entrance on duty.

The selected individual is required to obtain and maintain medical staff clinical privileges, including any licensure requirements. If privileges are not obtained or maintained during employment, the employee will be subject to adverse actions, up to and including removal from Federal service.

Background Investigation: If you are selected for this vacancy, you must undergo a pre-employment fingerprint check and background investigation. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):

Degree: Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada. This degree must have been accredited by the ; ; ; , or an accrediting body recognized by the at the time the degree was obtained; OR

Degree from Foreign Medical School: A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school must provide education and medical knowledge equivalent to accredited schools in the United States. Evidence of equivalency to accredited schools in the United States is demonstrated by permanent certification by the , a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country, or successful completion of the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination.

Licensure: For all grade levels and positions, applicants must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

Graduate Training: Subsequent to obtaining a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree, a candidate must have had at least 1 year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting, i.e., a 1-year internship or the first year of a residency program in a hospital or an institution accredited for such training. For purposes of this standard, graduate training programs include only those internship, residency, and fellowship programs that are approved by accrediting bodies recognized within the United States or Canada. Descriptions of such programs are described below.
  • An internship program involves broadly based clinical practice in which physicians acquire experience in treating a variety of medical problems under supervision (e.g., internal medicine, surgery, general practice, obstetrics-gynecology, and pediatrics). Such programs are in hospitals or other institutions accredited for internship training by a recognized body of the .
  • A residency program involves training in a specialized field of medicine in a hospital or an institution accredited for training in the specialty by a recognized body of the , (AMA) or .
  • A fellowship program involves advanced training (beyond residency training) in a given medical specialty in either a clinical or research setting in a hospital, or an institution accredited in the United States for such training.

In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below-

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

GS-15: Applicant(s) must meet one of the following minimum requirements to meet the GS-15 level:
  • Applicants must have at least five (5) years of equivalent experience in the specialty of the position to be filled; OR
  • Completion of five (5) years of graduate training (internship, residency, or fellowship program) in the specialty of the position to be filled, OR
  • Combination of experience and equivalent graduate training (internship, residency, or fellowship program) in the specialty of the position to be filled that when combined total at least five (5) years.

SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR:
Applicants must be board certified or is an active registrant of the board in the specialty to which the applicant is applying.
