Full Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

The Perioperative Scheduler maintains the master schedule for the Operating Room, Endoscopy/Bronchoscopy lab, and I Physiology. Duties include scheduling patients, maintaining resources (rooms, equipment, supplies), and communicates with other hospital departments as necessary to ensure success on the morning of procedure.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE

  • Triages and acts upon communication via phone call, email, and Teams messages. Establishes and takes appropriate action as required in maintaining an accurate schedule.
  • Maintains and coordinates changes, postponements, cancellations, and preferred order of procedures within the Operating Room, Endoscopy/Bronchoscopy Lab and GI physiology; also coordinates with hospital departments to ensure success on the morning of procedure.
  • Verifies scheduling documentation including diagnosis, CPT, and surgical description matches to ensure proper supplies available and time needed is accurate. Checks historical time against procedure.
  • Maintains block release calendar and communication related to block changes.

KEY SUCCESS FACTORS

  • Knowledge of medical terminology, diagnostic coding (CPT/ICD-10) preferred
  • Previous experience in scheduling surgeries or procedures preferred
  • Requires critical thinking, multi-task ability, and interpersonal skills.
  • Requires good listening, interpersonal and communication skills with professional, pleasant, and respectful telephone and online messaging etiquette.
  • Able to maintain the confidentiality of delicate and confidential information obtained through the course of completing assignments.
  • Social skills to interact with a wide-range of constituencies.
  • Able to maintain a calm and helpful attitude, even under times of stress, and take appropriate and reasonable steps to resolve issues.
  • able to work carefully, with a high attention to detail.
  • General computer skills, including but not limited to: typing, information security, electronic medical documentation, and email.

QUALIFICATIONS

- EDUCATION - H.S. Diploma/GED Equivalent

- EXPERIENCE - 1 Year of Experience
