Part-Time Housekeeper, J.E. Broyhill Civic Center

Description
Part-Time Housekeeper, J.E. Broyhill Civic Center provides staff, patrons, and community members a safe, attractive, comfortable and clean environment that can be enjoyed for entertainment and business needs or celebrations; and performs cleaning and maintenance in accordance with established practices and schedules. 

Examples of Duties
Essential and other responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Essential Functions:


Sweep, mop, strip and wax floors; shake out mats; shampoo and vacuum carpets.
Remove trash from building, grounds, sidewalks and parking lot, and empty trash cans.
Dust, sweep, mop, vacuum, move furniture and equipment, and water fountains.
Clean, stock and sanitize rest rooms and mirrors, and fill all dispensers.
Sanitize door handles, push bars, light switches, countertops, tables, chairs, vending machines, handrails, and elevator controls.
Wash windows, all entrance doors, door casings, and baseboards.
Keep the building, grounds, including sidewalks, driveways, parking lot, and grassy areas litter free.
Perform light landscaping duties.
Shovel or treat all entrances and walkways during ice and snow.

Marginal Functions:

Ensure all safety and fire regulations are followed.
Monitor building security and safety by ensuring all exit doors are locked and secure.
Check buildings periodically; report needed maintenance or repairs.
Participate in professional development activities and required employee training.
Respond to public inquiries in a courteous manner; provide information within the area of assignment; resolve complaints in an efficient and timely manner.
Perform other duties as assigned.

This position description covers the most essential functions and duties associated with this position. The President or appropriate supervisory personnel may assign additional duties. Qualifications and Working Conditions
Knowledge of:


Operations, services and activities of a building.
Methods and techniques of cleaning, maintenance and repair.
Operational characteristics of custodial equipment and tools.
Occupational hazards and standard safety practices.
Pertinent Federal, State and local laws, codes and regulations.
Basic mathematical calculations.

Ability to:

Independently perform difficult custodial maintenance duties.
Operate a variety of custodial equipment in a safe and effective manner.
Work independently in the absence of supervision.
Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Follow all safety rules and regulations of the college.

Environmental Conditions:

The employee should have the ability to effectively handle a work environment and conditions which involve indoor environment; working with machinery; exposure to dust and dirt; periodically working in high places; may be exposed to hazardous chemicals and materials.

The employee must preserve environments by maintaining equipment and supplies, ensuring overall cleanliness, functionality, and conformance to OSHA standards to provide a safe work environment.

Physical Conditions:

Physical and marginal functions require the ability to maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, which may include the following; standing, walking or sitting for extended periods, lifting and carrying moderately heavy materials, general manual dexterity, operating assigned equipment, and repeated bending.

The employee is required to maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for making observations, reading and writing, operating assigned equipment, communicating with others, and handling varied tasks simultaneously.

Additionally, the employee must maintain mental capacity, which permits making sound decisions and using good judgment, demonstrating intellectual capabilities, and evaluating the effectiveness of programs and personnel.

Scheduling Conditions:

This is a part-time position with scheduling based on the needs of programming.  Availability for work on any Caldwell Community College & Technical Institute site (or arranged off-campus site) is required, including day, evening, and/or weekend work.  

Traveling Conditions:
Local travel between the Caldwell campus, Watauga campus, or any off-campus sites may be needed. Out of state travel is limited but may be required for training and conferences.
Experience and Training
Required Experience:

Three months of prior housekeeping or related experience required.

Required Training:

High school diploma or equivalent required.
