Neuro Step-Down Unit (10500) - 10th Floor We are searching for an experienced nurse with at least 2 years of leadership experience to be the next Nurse Manager on the Neuro Step-Down Unit. This unit provides specialized care for patients transitioning from the Neuro ICU who still need close monitoring. The unit cares for individuals recovering from neurological conditions like stroke, brain injury, and neurosurgery. Staffed by a skilled team of neuro nurses, neurologists, and therapists, the unit focuses on stabilizing patients, managing symptoms, and preparing them for the next stage of recovery. The Neuro Step-Down Unit is dedicated to delivering high-quality, compassionate care during this crucial recovery phase. Barnes-Jewish Hospital's staff is composed of full-time academic faculty and community physicians of Washington University School of Medicine, supported by a house staff of residents, interns, fellows and other medical professionals. Recognizing its excellence in nursing care, Barnes-Jewish Hospital was the first adult hospital in Missouri to be certified as a Magnet Hospital by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. The Neuroscience Progressive Care Unit (PCU) is a 21 bed unit dedicated to the care of patients in need of specialized nursing care at a critical point in their healthcare journey, where they are at high risk for clinical deterioration. Progressive care, with lower nurse patient ratios, allows for frequent assessment, intervention, treatment and specialized monitoring. The unit cares for pre and postoperative neurosurgical, neuro-medicine and stroke patients with complex needs using a team approach with nurses, charge nurse and patient care techs. Bedside, central monitoring, and remote telemetry are standard for all PCU patients. Many resources are available to nurses on this unit, including: Nurse Practitioners, Nurse Mananger, Assistant Nurse Managers and a Nurse Educator. Additionally this nursing team collaborates with and are supported by a wide array of the multidisciplinary providers, physicians and pharmacists. A specialized orientation is provided to prepare nurses to care for the neuroscience patient as well as training specific to Progressive Care. Ongoing education and professional development is supported and encouraged. Attention to nursing patients with the provision of excellent outcomes is what drives the work on this unit. Role Purpose Responsible for the operational and clinical management of a designated patient care unit(s) on a 24 hour basis. Oversees a span of control and financial responsibility of > 72 FTE's supervised + > $2.5 million in total expenses OR > 40 FTE's supervised + > $5 million in total expenses.
