Who will you be working with?
In this role you will be reporting to the Hydraulics Application Manager, who manages a team of two. However, you will be working closely with the Bogie Brake team at large which consists of three Design Engineers, the Hydraulics Application Manager, along with the lead of the team. In this role you will be assigned responsibilities from small with individual tasks through to broader range projects, and be able to interface with Quality, Manufacturing, and Project Management.
How will you make a difference?
The Foundation Brake Product Engineering team selects from our sister division catalogs and/or design and develops Foundation Brake units (Disc Brake Units, Tread Brake Units, Discs, Magnetic Track Brakes, or Hydraulic brake units) according to customer specifications.
What do we want to know about you?
Minimum Qualifications:

- BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology from a university recognized by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology, ABET.
- 5-10 years of relevant experience in mechanical design, preferably in a manufacturing industry that involves machining and assembly.
Competencies, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Creative thinking and problem-solving skills
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Experience with 3D CAD modeling and 2D drafting, preferably SolidWorks. Other applications could be Catia V5 or NX.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products
Authority:
(Defined decision making level. The Plant GM is the main authority at site level. To be able to give authority, any employee in the organization shall first receive it from their manager or upper level, up to the General Manager.)
All WPT employees have the authority to stop the process they are performing, should the process become unsafe or the outputs non-conforming.
What will your typical day look like?
- Able to take on assignments with or without assistance as the need arises being the primary product engineering voice on assigned projects.
- Support design and development of parts and assemblies for mass transit train systems, primarily supporting our original equipment business, with additional support for our aftermarket parts and services businesses.
- Design solutions utilizing engineering software (i.e., SolidWorks, ANSYS, etc.) to evaluate and release three-dimensional (CAD) and two-dimension (drawing) files.
- Collaborate across organizational functions to produce reliable, safe, and cost-effective products for the rail industry.
- Support Operations team for component assembly, end of line testing, and other manufacturing processes as required.
- Support Test Engineering personnel to develop test specifications, review issues that develop during testing, and assess results. Provide technically viable solutions when issues arise.
- Support Sourcing and Supply Chain with procurement of R&D, new product introduction, and current production components.
- Coordinate with the Field Service team to provide solutions that enhance the customer experience with Wabtec products.
- Interface with customers to support technical reviews and product acceptance.
- Assist the Advanced Engineering team in preparation of technical and commercial proposals in accordance with customer requirements and prior product experience.
- Other duties, as assigned.
- Support Sourcing and Supply Chain with procurement of R&D, new product introduction, and current production components.
- Coordinate with the Field Service team to provide solutions that enhance the customer experience with Wabtec products.
