As Packaging Industrial Designer, you will be responsible for leading the engineering and technical design development of packaging from idea through commercialization within the Packaging Design Studio. This role focuses on the technical development of packaging, supplier documentation, and ensuring packaging design optimization. You will work closely with Industrial Design and Engineering teams to support concept development and collaborate with cross-functional teams to create next generation packaging solutions.
What You’ll Do for Us:
- Engineering Design Development: Drive the engineering and technical design development of packaging from concept through commercialization. Manage end-to-end technical development, ensuring seamless integration and commercialization of packaging designs.
- Engineering Design Capability Development: Lead the development of innovation and research packaging design projects and the creation of proprietary design components, ensuring their functionality and efficacy. Research new opportunities, methodologies, and technologies that enhance packaging design and functionality. Operationalize these learnings into internal capabilities for the Packaging Design Studio.
- Technical Best Practices Stewardship: Own the creation and management of technical documentation, ensuring accurate and comprehensive records. Manage design database and generate construction guidelines to optimize design and technology reapplication.
- Technical Problem Solving: Provide expertise for design and engineering projects across the Global Packaging Network to ensure system operational capabilities. Support the Packaging Design Studio with concept development, providing technical guidance throughout the design process.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate seamlessly with Engineering & Conversion, Global Development & Innovation (GDI), Brand, and Category partners to develop and refine concepts. Act as a technical expert, providing support to Operating Units and bottlers on internal and external developments.
- Project Management: Lead and oversee projects from concept through commercialization, ensuring all project deliverables meet or exceed expectations.
Qualifications & Requirements:
Required:
- Education: Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, or a related field
- Minimum 5 years of process/packaging development experience in an R&D environment.
- Experience in the Consumer-Packaged Goods (CPG) industry.
- Strong proficiency in 3D modeling (CATIA), technical documentation, package design, preform design, closure design, mold design, and design for manufacturing.
- Expert knowledge of beverage manufacturing, Glass, Injection, and Injection Stretch Blow-Molding (ISBM) manufacturing processes, and design requirements for successful commercialization.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced and dynamic team environment.
Preferred:
- Experience in the Consumer-Packaged Goods (CPG) industry.
- Knowledge of emerging trends and technologies in packaging design.
- Experience with 3D printing and prototype modeling.
- Working knowledge of beverage processing and associated packaging types.
