Full Job Description

Community Food Share, the Feeding America food bank serving Boulder and Broomfield Counties, provides access to fresh, nutritious food to neighbors experiencing food insecurity, and local partners fighting food insecurity. We are looking for a charismatic, collaborative fundraiser to join our diverse team and lead our fundraising efforts, to support our mission of feeding people in the Boulder and Broomfield communities.

The Major Gifts Officer (MGO) is responsible for identifying, researching, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding individuals capable of making major and planned gifts over $5,000 to support the mission of our food bank. The position reports to the Director of Philanthropy and manages a portfolio of approximately 120 major gift prospects and donors. This position is an ideal opportunity for a collaborative and experienced development professional to join a motivated and passionate team.

The Major Gifts Officer is a strategic position that drives transformative change, empowers our organization and neighbors, expands our reach, and continues making a lasting impact in Boulder and Broomfield counties. In this position, you will play a pivotal role in building a strong culture of philanthropy across our organization.

This position is eligible for remote work one day a week.

Fundraising

  • Responsible for developing and overseeing the Major Gifts program, "the Supper Club," working within Community Food Share's organization-wide strategic plan and the philanthropy strategic plan.
  • Directly manage a portfolio of 120-150 donor and donor prospects capable of making a gift of $5,000+ utilizing major gift best practices.
  • Build and maintain relationships to implement strategic solicitation of donors for gifts that reach full philanthropic capacity.
  • Develop, write, and present customized proposals that align the needs of Community Food Share with donor intent and capacity.
  • Meet with donors in-person, virtually and via telephone to steward long-lasting relationships to sustain the efforts and mission of Community Food Share.
  • Identifies current donors with greater capacity and develops strategies for increasing giving levels through cultivation, outreach, recognition and events activities, in partnership with the Donor Relations Officer.
  • Identifies and cultivates planned giving prospects and develops strategies for gift planning opportunities, in collaboration with the Director of Philanthropy.
  • Support the Chief Executive Officer and Director of Philanthropy in the management of their portfolios.

Administration

  • Regularly update proposals, track Moves Management activity and document long term strategy using Raiser's Edge.
  • Participates in internal and external planning committee meetings as appropriate.
  • Supports the DP and DM in Community Food Share's strategic plan and its derivatives by creating and overseeing efforts that will increase donations and stature within the community.
  • Represents and speaks on behalf of Community Food Share at external events and campaigns.
  • Maintains positive relationships with the public through attendance and participation in community events and represents Community Food Share in a positive, professional manner.
  • Provides input on budgetary assessments, including developing revenue projections, recognizing monthly and annual variances, and identifying expenses related to major donor cultivation.
  • Perform such other duties as required by the Director of Philanthropy.

  • Travel locally in service area may be required, as well as occasional overnight travel out of area for events and conferences.

Qualifications & Skills
Alignment with Community Food Share's mission and a compassionate appreciation for hunger issues are essential to the successful performance of all responsibilities. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required to successfully perform the essential functions of this job:

Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree required. Advanced degree or additional development experience desirable. Relevant experience may be substituted for formal education.
5 years+ of fundraising and donor cultivation experience with proven results preferred.
Ability to devise and execute strategies and team plans with minimal oversight and to drive execution with team peers across boundaries.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills (with peers and donors) are required.
Must have excellent time management skills and the ability to produce deliverables from start to finish effectively and under pressure to meet deadlines.
Experience with donor research and CRM systems (Raiser's Edge NXT preferred).
Candidate must be self-motivated, demonstrate initiative, and be a strong team player.
Knowledge of food insecurity and the cycle of poverty.

Knowledge
Knowledge in the food bank funding community is a plus. Interest in the work Community Food Share does is critical.

Understands the confidential nature of fundraising efforts and donor information and maintains confidentiality.

Computer literacy and competency with donor databases is necessary.

Interpersonal Skills
Alternative or combined skills in understanding, counseling, and/or influencing people are important in achieving organizational objectives, causing action, understanding others, or changing behavior. Skills of persuasiveness, influence or assertiveness, sensitivity to the point of view of others, as well as generational, gender and cultural competency and awareness are requisite to success in this position.

Physical Demands
This position is primarily an office/administrative position. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and/or stand for long periods. Employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. Employee may be required to bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, push, pull, stoop, climb stairs and ladders, balance, walk for extended periods of time; use hands to finger, grasp, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms above the shoulder; be able to talk; and hear with or without aid. The employee may occasionally lift, leverage, and/or move up to 50 pounds repetitively. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, color vision, distance vision and ability to adjust focus.

Health Related Event Protocol
The Health-Related Event Protocol is in effect anytime required by federal, state or local health orders, or as required by the organization for public safety.

Remote Work Eligibility: This position is classified as eligible for a hybrid remote work schedule. Hybrid is defined as being at the discretion of the supervisor and dependent upon the needs of the organization and the job responsibilities, as well as any public health orders which may be in effect at the time. Hybrid workers may be required to flex their schedules to work several days in the facility and must be able to be in the facility within 48 hours of being notified to appear. Hybrid workers are assigned private offices or cubicles onsite as they may be required to work frequently in the facility. Community Food Share will provide IT equipment for work performed in the facility; a laptop may or may not be available for remote work. Hybrid workers will be required to have access to a secure stable internet connection. (TEAM ORANGE HYBRID)

Vaccination: Community Food Share does not require proof of vaccination status. However, this position works directly with the public in the performance of core duties. Employees serving in public facing positions may be required to wear a mask and practice social distancing at certain mobile, donor, or agency facilities regardless of vaccination status. Further, vaccination status may be required by donor businesses, agencies, or other facilities. While this is not a requirement of Community Food Share, it may be a requirement of the donor business, agency, or facility where we perform our work. Those unable to comply with outside requirements are required to speak directly with their supervisor or HR for assistance in this matter.

Work Environment
Community Food Share operates in a working warehouse environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and moving equipment. The employee may be exposed to high, precarious places; outside weather conditions; and extreme cold in the walk-ins. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but may be loud with machinery and equipment in operation.

Hiring range for this position starts between $90,000 and $104,000 per year.
