Objective: Helps patients and supports medical providers by providing clinical and business office assistance.

Summary of Responsibilities:
- Maintaining a smooth and orderly patient flow by assuring patients are checked in and screened as quickly as possible by performing the initial triage for patients.
- Performing basic medical procedures; patient triage including checking and recording vital signs on all age groups, venipuncture and other blood drawing techniques, medication administration including injecting or immunizing patients, conducting general urinalysis tests, performing EKGs, well child checks, spirometry and other clinical diagnostic tests.
- Assisting physicians with patients during special medical procedures and examinations. Assisting physicians in performing minor surgeries such as I & D, cysts, burns, warts, biopsy, suturing, suture removal, etc. Clinical diagnostic tests such as audiometry, vision examinations, pap smears, cultures, etc.
- Completing laboratory forms and preparing laboratory specimens in accordance with established procedures, including ensuring that specimens are sent to the correct laboratory for each health plan, making sure that all examining rooms are stocked with the proper supplies for each laboratory, and verifying that all laboratory procedures and the corresponding diagnosis codes are correctly identified on the encounter form.
- Ensuring that patient examining rooms are clean and have adequate medical supplies and equipment, including wiping down and disinfecting exam rooms after patients with infectious diseases leave the room, and recognizing and isolating patients with infectious diseases.
- Facilitating timely and complete interaction between physicians and patients, including always being friendly, courteous and helpful to patients, periodically checking on patients who may be waiting an unusual length of time for the doctor and knowing how to contact the provider during emergencies.
- Reviewing patient electronic medical records (EMR) prior to placing patients in examining rooms to determine what diagnostic test, special supplies or equipment may be needed by the provider, and knowing how to find lab work, specialist consultation reports, and other test results for the attending provider.
- Providing as much assistance to patients and doctors/providers as possible, including picking up messages for provider and calling their attention to those requiring urgent attention, recognizing emergencies and responding appropriately, checking voice messages and returning telephone calls, completing prior authorizations, and referring consultation requests to the Referral Specialist in a timely manner.
