The role:

Bring your maintenance and leadership experience to our team as a highway maintenance coordinator. In this role, you will help the transportation maintenance manager by overseeing the work of the road maintenance crew. You will oversee the repair, renovation and reconstruction of roadbeds, surfaces, structures and facilities. Join us in keeping Oregon’s roads safe for all travelers! Apply today!

The majority of the work performed by the person in this position will be performed in the Eastern Oregon Border Economic Region.

A day in the life:

  • Advise and guide employees in effective performance and resolve work-related issues.

  • Review and evaluate structural damages from accidents.

  • Coordinate activities with other crews, agencies, contractors and news media to ensure safety.

  • Ensure the crew has the necessary resources to accomplish their work.

  • Ensure proper maintenance of equipment.

  • Review the crew’s work and provide input to the transportation maintenance manager (TMM).

  • Assist the TMM by preparing, reviewing and/or signing documents.

  • Provide new employee orientation and training.

  • Assist with writing and evaluating contracts.

  • Exposure to noise, extreme heights, adverse weather, heavy equipment, pesticides and hazardous waste materials is expected.

  • Must be able to move around rough terrain, on uneven slopes and may need to lift up to 100 pounds.

  • May need to be available after hours, on weekends and holidays for emergency, on call and weather related purposes.

Minimum qualifications:

Three years of maintenance or construction experience in roadway, highway, bridge, sign, drawbridge, or landscape.

Special qualifications:

  • CDL-A Required: Employee will be required to use a commercial motor vehicle to conduct business. You must possess a current, valid commercial driver's license A (CDL-A) with no air brake restrictions, no 5th wheel restrictions and no manual transmission restrictions to be considered eligible for this position. You must also have or be able to obtain a tanker endorsement within 30 days of hire. A valid driver license and an acceptable driving record are required for this position. We will conduct pre-employment driving records checks, including Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Clearinghouse registration and full query check for our final candidate(s) and annual query for current employees.

  • This position requires living in state housing in Jordan Valley. If no on-site housing is available, this position requires a maximum 30 minute response time to 701 Bassett St. Jordan Valley, OR 97910 for emergency call-outs. Employee housing is available at a subsidized rental rate (less than $150/month, utilities included) for up to 2 years. The single-family residence is located in Jordan Valley within walking distance of the shop.

  • This position requires the final candidate obtain their Public Pesticide Applicator’s license within 1 year of hire.

  • Experience using hand tools and operating light and heavy equipment such as tractors, excavators, loaders or dump trucks.

  • Experience completing basic mechanical repairs on light and heavy vehicles or equipment.

  • Experience leading and coordinating a team.

  • Experience preparing documents and running reports.
