Full Job Description

The Functional Analyst is responsible for gathering, analyzing and documenting business or system processes and requirements for NJM’s applications. This role will work closely with all Project and Business team members throughout the project lifecycle. This role will assist in problem and solution scoping, will effectively communicate requirements and may get involved in quality assurance.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Analysis/Technical Skills:

  • Support and promote requirements planning & monitoring activities for project delivery.
  • Collaborate with applicable stakeholders to understand and diagram existing or new business processes using a variety of modeling techniques.
  • Elicit, capture and document requirements independently; prepare and maintain documentation utilizing user stories, use cases, diagrams, or other requirement management templates and tools.
  • Understand and demonstrate proficiency in applying appropriate requirements elicitation techniques (interviews, surveys, brainstorming sessions, etc.).
  • Understand estimation methodologies; provide estimates for assignments.
  • Facilitate meetings and team interaction, as well as foster business relationships.
  • Understand in detail the features, functions, and capabilities of package solutions in order to achieve proper business requirements alignment and adaptation to package as needed.
  • Assist in the investigation and resolution of incidents as needed.

Quality:

  • Complete assignments within expected timeframes.
  • Produce high-quality artifacts with a minimal level of re-work by leveraging peer reviews to ensure the accuracy of deliverables and adherence to standards.
  • Regularly confirm expectations and proactively provide due dates for assignments.
  • Proactively communicate status of assignments and escalate gaps/issues which will impact targeted timeframes for deliverables.
  • Participate in testing activities.
  • Understand and follow IT department best practices and standards.
  • Schedule and facilitate project meetings as necessary for successful delivery.

Continuous Improvement & Product Knowledge:

  • Proactively seek mentoring from senior team members.
  • Develop an in-depth knowledge of multiple application’s current implementations as well as available features and functionality.
  • Through self-study and mentoring, remain informed of industry wide trends and departmental/company strategic initiatives.
  • Actively contribute to design of solutions by providing SME support.
  • Actively contribute to process improvement initiatives for the individual, functional group/team, department or organization to increase effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Interact with vendor user groups, as necessary.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:

  • 2+ years of experience as a Business Analyst (working with Personal Lines Insurance products is preferred).
  • 4+ year of experience in software delivery.
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with different requirements gathering tools and techniques (use cases, diagramming, process modeling, interviews, workshops, etc.).
  • Experience with multiple project delivery methodologies (Agile, SAFE preferred)
  • Ability to learn quickly in a fast-paced environment, and adapting to change.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment is essential.
  • Ability to adapt to shifting priorities, demands and timelines.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
