This position, Regional Experiences Operations Supervisor, contributes to REI's success by supervising and mentoring REI Regional Experiences teams, including the Regional Fleet Coordinator, Food & Beverage Coordinator, customer service, and programs. As part of this position, you will be responsible for the development and scheduling of programs, risk management, operations for all day programming, and overseeing partnership agreements with land management agencies. Supervisors will be responsible for day-to-day staff management and scheduling, ensuring the successful delivery of programming content and the safety of all participants in the field, as well as providing excellent customer service, REI branding, and role modeling to all members of the local core team. Additional responsibilities include overseeing equipment maintenance, coordinating programming and event logistics, and ensure permitting prior to programs. As part of this role, you will also be responsible for serving as a staff trainer, performing administrative duties, collaborating with store management teams, communicating with customers and local business and community partners, and conducting field assessments of classes and guides. Represents REI's guiding values and mission by modeling and acting in accordance with them.


Responsibilities and Qualifications

How you will be successful:

● Implements company programs, procedures, methods, and practices to promote REI's key messages.
● Encourages and challenges employees to achieve business goals.
● Ensures that employees comply with all legal and operational requirements.
● Makes effective selections regarding staffing, including managing training and development of employees.
● Ensures that performance reviews are conducted and completed.
● Supports employees in achieving departmental, company, and customer goals through coaching, direction, and leadership.
● Develops and maintains a high level of visibility within the department.
● Analyzes operational statistics, reports trends, variances, and issues, and takes appropriate action where necessary.
● With the oversight of the Regional Manager, plan an assortment of programming for the local market, meeting established KPIs and goals.
● Provides customer service and operational leadership for local day programming.
● With the oversight of the Regional Manager, ensures the financial and expense management of the program.
● Accountable for the hiring and onboarding of new employees (internal and external to REI).
● Establishes staffing and training plans for programs.
● Provide employees with training in both programming and risk management.
● Mentor and coach core team members, with experience coaching a variety of customers and employees.
● Manages local emergency response, providing support to both instructors and guides.
● Develop specific programs, outings, and partnerships between businesses and land agencies.
● Communicate changes and updates to program assortment.
● Manage and collaborate on the planning of local assortments.
● Manage contracts, permits, and agreements.
● Maintain local operating procedures and ensure the execution of local venue guides.
● Reports findings to managers based on local trends.
● Promotes community relations by building and cultivating relationships.

Your qualities:

● 4+ years of experience in outdoor education programs, leadership and development, experiential education instruction and/or guiding outdoor participation required
● 1+ years of experience managing and supervising a diverse team required
● Proven outdoor leadership skills and ability to function collaboratively required
● Working knowledge of legal, regulatory, and risk management issues related to outdoor education required
● Excellent presentation and instruction skills
● Wilderness First Aid and CPR certification required (If candidate is hired without current certifications, candidate must complete within the first 3 months of hire.)
● Wilderness First Responder Certification
● Instructor certifications or relevant experience in activities being offered (i.e., AMGA Climbing, ACA Kayak, PSIA Ski Instructor, etc.)
● Valid driver’s license with no negative incidents required; able to acquire a commercial driver’s license (If candidate is hired without current certifications, candidate must complete within the first 3 months of hire.)
● BA in Leisure and Recreation Management or equivalent
● Intermediate level PC skills: Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint, PowerPoint
● Experience working in a retail environment
● Previous Events, Branding, and Experiential Marketing Experience
● Builds capacity of team members and teams through effective employee development, involvement, communication, and supervision efforts.
