Resp & Qualifications

PURPOSE

This role's primary function is to lead content and communications strategy development for CareFirst executive leadership. The individual is expertly proficient in creating compelling content for executive leadership to support a wide variety of content mediums (i.e., Board communications, engagements, social media, op-eds, video scripts, etc.) and audiences (e.g., Board members, elected officials, employees, C-suite). Reporting to the Vice President of Communications, this role requires familiarity with current events and literature appropriate to the development of high-quality written and spoken communications. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Content Development

  • Partners with senior leaders to develop clear, concise, and compelling messages that reflect the values of the business, enhances leadership presence, and strengthens the employee experience.
  • Develops content for a range of platforms, including earned media, social media, events, industry associations, community, and employee channels. 
  • Provides consistency in all executive communications, with corporate brand standards and positioning top of mind and adaptability to the nuanced style and tone of a leaders authentic voice.

Strategy & Consultation

  • Leads all aspects of strategy and content for main executives communications and engagements, internal and external, and other executives as assigned. 
  • Drives communications strategies and approaches to advance executive and company reputation, in alignment with desired business and communications outcomes. 
  • Coordinates, collaborates, researches, writes, edits and obtains approval for speeches, op-eds, by-lined print media articles and other executive writing and presentation assignments to position executive leaders as industry subject matter experts, influence public policy, inform and motivate employees, and build the company's reputation. 

Contextual Application

  • Maintains familiarity with current events and literature appropriate to the development of high-quality written and spoken communications. 
  • Anticipates and mitigates communication risks, ensuring that all materials adhere to approved public positions on major issues and advising on communications opportunities and challenges.
  • Attends executive engagements and consults with appropriate internal and external partners to bring localized insights to messaging and executive preparation.

Interpersonal Skills 

  • Builds relationships with top executives and possesses capacity to communicate in high profile settings. 
  • Navigates fast-paced, high-quality content expectations and remains open to feedback. 
  • Collaborates extensively with senior leadership across the enterprise to develop materials in support of executive leadership. 

QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism or related field or in lieu of a Bachelor's degree, an additional 4 years of relevant work experience is required in addition to the required work experience.

Experience: Ten (10) years of communications experience with a portfolio or work examples that demonstrates a proficiency in creating compelling content for executive leadership to support a wide variety of content (i.e., Board communications, engagements, social media, op-eds, video scripts, etc.) and audiences (e.g., Board members, elected officials, employees, C-suite).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to synthesize complex issues quickly and communicate clearly and effectively.
  • Ability to produce high-quality written content, working effectively under deadlines.
  • Impeccable attention to detail.
  • Experience writing for healthcare and/or government-regulated products, services, and industries.
  • A pulse on current events and good understanding of health care trends to support proactive writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to juggle multiple deadlines and prioritize tasks.
  • Experience in maintaining confidentiality and discretion.
  • Comfort leading strategic communications plans by crafting a cohesive message in line with executive voices.
  • Experience writing for senior leaders, to include executives or elected officials.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs):

  • Strong writing, editing and proofreading skills. 
  • Ability to translate technical and industry jargon into copy that is understandable and engaging to the reader or listener. 
  • Keen attention to detail and the ability to prioritize and manage a variety of tasks simultaneously, sometimes under pressure and often with tight deadlines. 
  • Ability to apply principles and practices of building influence, engagement and connection.
  • Professional, organized, resourceful, and enthusiastic, with a team player mentality; equally capable of working self-sufficiently and collaboratively.
  • Capture the executive voice in remarks, speeches, presentations, and other written material
  • Writes and/or evaluates preliminary drafts and offers suggestions to executive leadership
  • Hands-on experience with the Microsoft Office suite of business applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams, etc.). 
  • Familiarity with AP style, as well as ADA and 508 accessibility standards, with the ability to create content that meets WC3 requirements. 
  • Ability to establish strong relationships across departments and with people at all levels, an understanding of client needs, the consumer experience, marketing strategy and operational capabilities.
  • Ability to balance the day-to-day requests of both internal and external clients, ensuring all timelines and requirements are consistently achieved.
  • Knowledge of best practices in communications, marketing, advertising and/or brand management.


Salary Range: $115,120 - $205,777

The associate is primarily seated while performing the duties of the position.  Occasional walking or standing is required.  The hands are regularly used to write, type, key and handle or feel small controls and objects.  The associate must frequently talk and hear.  Weights up to 25 pounds are occasionally lifted.
