Summary

The Director of Planned Giving for The Children's Home Foundation is responsible for identifying, cultivating, and forming relationships with new prospects and current donors that lead to the completion of planned giving arrangements, major outright gifts, estate gifts, and endowments for The Foundation. The impact of this work will result in significant growth of the endowment that will help ensure The Foundation's support of the Children's Home of Lubbock will continue for future generations.

Primary Duties

  • Become acquainted with existing donor base and identify planned giving prospects through the various tools available
  • Secure face-to-face meetings with prospective and existing donors to both establish and enhance relationships
  • Maintain up-to-date records of visits
  • Draft marketing and communication materials for the planned giving program
  • Prepare life income gift proposals for donors and their advisors
  • Work to improve awareness and public image of The Foundation in the community
  • Work collaboratively with other Foundation staff and leadership to strategize for increased effectiveness of development efforts
  • Foster and promote a collegial relationship with the Children's Home of Lubbock through professionalism, cooperation, and thoughtful/positive engagement with their staff and leadership
  • Maintain highest levels of ethics and professionalism, adhering to the Christ-centered mission of The Children's Home Foundation
  • Demonstrate fiscal responsibility and thoughtful planning in the use and care of all Foundation resources
  • Some travel will be required

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university is required, preferably in philanthropy, business, marketing, finance, or other related field; advanced degree or professional designations preferred (e.g., JD, CPA, CFRE, CAP)
  • Minimum five years of proven, successful fundraising with demonstrated success in soliciting and closing planned gifts
  • Working knowledge of planned giving vehicles, including but not limited to charitable gift annuities, charitable remainder trusts, gifts of securities, wills and estate gifts, gifts of real estate and business interests
  • Must be well organized, detail-conscious, self-motivated, and goal-oriented
  • Must be skilled at building strong donor relationships and bringing planned gift opportunities to completion
  • Proven leadership and consensus building skills, including the ability to maintain positive working relationships with other staff, leadership, community groups, and other key stakeholders
  • Demonstrated proficiency in writing and strong communication skills; the successful candidate should have public speaking experience and the ability to represent The Foundation well
  • Must demonstrate an empathetic disposition, have perseverance, reflect an optimistic and positive attitude, and convey sensitivity to needs of donors
  • Must adhere to the highest ethical standards, as reflected in the AFP Code of Ethics, for example, and a commitment to the Christ-centered mission of The Foundation and the Children's Home of Lubbock (Manifesting Christ Through Excellence in Childcare)
  • Must have current driver's license, required insurance, and car available for work
