We’re seeking a strategic and results-driven Director of Financial Planning, Reporting & Analysis to join our Finance team at our corporate headquarters in downtown Chicago. In this critical role, you will shape and enhance our internal reporting framework, driving key financial processes, including annual budgeting, comparative performance reporting, monthly forecasting, and ad-hoc financial analysis.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:   

  • Annual Planning: Coordination and oversight for cradle-to-grave development of the company’s annual budget, including but not limited to establishing and communicating targets for business units, operating, general and administrative expenses, conducting business unit and cost center budget reviews, preparing formal operating plan presentation, presenting and aligning executive team on plan materials, and participating in presentation of annual plan to Board of Directors.
  • Reporting: Build, maintain and improve upon financial reporting to support internal and external needs and requirements across all finance functions. Design, develop, implement standardized processes and reporting for the organization while interacting with multiple levels of management.  Preparation and distribution of comprehensive monthly reporting package to executive team, Board of Directors and creditors, focusing on month and year-to-date comparative performance versus budget and prior year results.  Includes meaningful business analysis and commentary to concisely direct audience to significant performance issues, to enable course corrections and to provide a snapshot on business activity for periods presented.
  • Monthly Forecasting Process: Improve upon monthly forecasting processes to drive a more reliable recurring forecasts and KPI tracking to assert forecast claims.
  • Cost Savings: Coordination and development of cross-functional cost savings program to identify and execute upon actionable cost savings initiatives across all line items of our income statement. Includes initiative capture, tracking and realization within our income statement.  Includes comparative reporting on month and year-to-date operating and SG&A cost center with business partners.
  • Capital Allocation: Develop and maintain processes to evaluate returns on capital spending and other major projects to ensure capital is deployed to initiatives providing the highest after-tax returns.
  • M&A Integration: Partner with globally acquired businesses to integrate acquisitions into Berlin financial reporting regimen and cadence.
  • Systems Expertise: Day-to-day use of OneStream, including assisting with system development and long-term consolidation and reporting tool roadmap.  Leverage Berlin’s data warehousing capabilities to streamline daily processing and data analytics across all finance functions and supplement current financial reporting and analytics capabilities.
  • Financial Systems Trainer: Develop training materials for financial applications for field and corporate finance users to ensure user proficiency, user satisfaction and ultimate integrity of data inputs; conduct live user training to support materials, as required.
  • Manage a Team: Both directly and indirectly manage a global team of resources to execute our collective FP&A goals. Provide development opportunities and coaching to your team. Model the Berlin Values and serve as a champion for The Berlin Culture as defined in the employer and employee portions of the T-Chart.

Qualifications:  

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance; CPA and/or MBA a plus
  • Minimum experience requirement is 8+ years of financial experience including 2+ years leading a team
  • Working knowledge of financial statements and ad hoc financial reporting
  • Proven track record of understanding financial models and metrics to ensure financial systems to meet both internal and external reporting requirements
  • Outstanding communicator; proven ability and desire to interface cross-functionally
  • Strong financial reporting systems experience, with Sarbanes-Oxley compliance implications
  • Experience with OneStream, Hyperion or other Consolidation system required
  • Advanced Excel capabilities, proven ability to manage and organize large amounts of data to facilitate complex analysis in an efficient, repeatable manner
  • Experience with data warehousing a plus
  • Detail and project oriented with the ability to juggle multiple priorities
CA, IL, NY Pay range$175,000—$210,000 USD
