PURPOSE:
The Data Scientist Associate (hybrid) position is on the Provider Analytics team under the Health Services division. It provides data, reports, and analyses in support of initiatives to improve health equity, outcomes, access, and affordability of care, focused on the areas of health care providers and value-based programs.
We are looking for an experienced professional residing in the greater Baltimore metropolitan area who is willing and able to work in a hybrid capacity. The incumbent will be able to work from home most days, but attendance at a CareFirst location (typically the Canton office) will be required one day per week or more depending on business needs and work activities.
Identifies and solves business problems with Provider Analytics team by using various numerical techniques, algorithms, and models in statistical modeling, machine learning, operations research, and data mining. Uses advanced analytical capabilities to support data science initiatives.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Mines and extracts data and applies algorithms to derive insights.
- Explores data to understand the data profile and its limitations.
- Assists business units in the innovation of organizational performance.
- Explores data patterns using existing data science tools.
- Translates business priorities to data science deliverables.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education Level: Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science or related field OR in lieu of a Bachelor's degree, an additional 4 years of relevant work experience is required in addition to the required work experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs)
- Ability to work with minimal guidance.
- Ability to communicate effectively and document objectives and procedures.
- Fundamental knowledge in model evaluation, tuning and performance, operationalization, and scalability of scientific techniques.
- Understands fundamentals of software engineering principles and practices.
- Foundation in statistical modeling applications.

Salary Range: $66,672 - $132,418

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The associate is primarily seated while performing the duties of the position. Occasional walking or standing is required. The hands are regularly used to write, type, key and handle or feel small controls and objects. The associate must frequently talk and hear. Weights up to 25 pounds are occasionally lifted.
