Hourly Pay Range (Minimum - Midpoint - Maximum):

$61.505 - $79.362 - $97.218


The stated pay scale reflects the range that Sharp reasonably expects to pay for this position. The actual pay rate and pay grade for this position will be dependent on a variety of factors, including an applicant's years of experience, unique skills and abilities, education, alignment with similar internal candidates, marketplace factors, other requirements for the position, and employer business practices.



What You Will Do
BH Clinical Psychologist performs psychological/diagnostic assessment and evidence-based treatment for mood, anxiety, thought, neurocognitive, intellectual, and personality disorders and behavior problems. Provides empirically-supported treatments. demonstrates competence in group, individual, and family therapy is required. Serves as a consultant for the milieu program by assisting in the development, implementation of new programs as part of an interdisciplinary team Develops and provides staff training to enhance clinical knowledge and skills as necessary. Provides specialized clinical training for psychology trainees, including supervision /mentorship as needed per APA, APPIC, and BOP guidelines. Demonstrates commitment to ongoing professional-development.

Required Qualifications
  • Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) Ph.D. or PsyD. from an APA accredited doctoral program in psychology, or an Ed.D from a doctoral program in Psychology
  • 3 Years Clinical experience
  • 1 Year Experience (pre or post licensure) in an inpatient psychiatric treatment setting
  • Leadership experience
  • Experience in program development/evaluation
  • California Licensed Clinical Psychologist (LCP) - CA Board of Psychology -REQUIRED
  • AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Professional (AHA BLS Healthcare) - American Heart Association -REQUIRED

Preferred Qualifications
  • Completion of an APA doctoral internship in clinical psychology
  • Completion of a postdoctoral fellowship in a relevant specialty area such as severe mental illness, trauma, psychosocial rehabilitation, cognitive behavior therapy

Essential Functions
  • Collaboration
    Collaborates with clinical supervisor and interdisciplinary team to develop competency and acquire technical skills.
    Communicates with appropriate supervisor in a timely manner all patient safety issues (e.g., suspected abuse, possible Tarasoff reporting, suicidality, clinical or ethical concerns).
    Requests and accepts feedback and evidences self as a lifelong learner.
    Attends and actively participates in required treatment team meetings and clinical supervision.
  • Communication and teamwork
    Communicates with the members of the healthcare team and court officers, conservator's office and /or patient advocates as appropriate to expedite patient progress, while upholding patient rights and facility safety.
    Maintains ongoing communication with multi-disciplinary team members regarding patient status and follow-up.
    Consults with team members in development of treatment plans.
    Attends treatment team and staff meetings inservices and case presentations as designated by unit/department/program.
    Arranges and facilitates patient care conferences for difficult/high-risk psychosocial cases to enhance resolution of identified issues.
    Identifies Bioethical dilemmas and initiates appropriate response.
    Testifies at Certification Review and Reise hearings regarding patient's current mental health status as appropriate.
    Consults, coordinates, and intervenes in crisis situations while assisting staff in de-escalating volatile situations and facilitating Code Green and critical incident debriefings.
    Develops interdisciplinary education to increase staff knowledge.
  • Process improvement
    Continuous Process Improvement: Seeks and develops performance improvement initiatives.
    Develops initiatives to improve patient care.
    Utilizes appropriate processes or tools to document identified problems to promptly initiate problem solving plans.
    Actively sets priorities and adjusts to unscheduled situations.
    Promotes quality outcomes in complex, new/unusual, or other high-risk clinical situations, collaborating or seeking additional resources as needed.
    Makes sound decisions and demonstrates ability to handle situations not covered by written or verbal instructions.
    Displays self-direction in gathering clinical and research information practice independently and competently.
    Seeks out current scientific knowledge as needed to enhance knowledge about clinical practice and other relevant areas.
    Applies psychological principles that will directly result in improved outcomes as assessed by patient, family, physicians, and staff.
    Assists with matching therapeutic interventions with individual patient's developmental and psycho-social needs.
  • Patient Care, Assessment and Intervention
    Patient Care, Assessment, and Intervention: Demonstrates self-directed psychological practice with individuals, families, and groups. Works effectively and ethically with diverse patient populations using appropriate assessment, intervention, team, communication and professional relationship skills. Formulates a useful case conceptualization that draws on current psychological research and theory.
    Provides individual, group, and family treatment which meets patient needs.
    Uses current methods and techniques in accordance with accepted treatment modalities.
    Provides family education services.
    Completes formal psychosocial and/or psychological evaluations.
    Identify, conduct, interpret, and supervise psychological/diagnostic evaluation/assessment (i.e. testing).
    Collaborates with treatment team and patient by gathering integral data to ensure the development of quantitative and evidence based treatment plans.
    Contributes to the development, implementation and updates of interdisciplinary plans of care.
  • Interdisciplinary Consultation and Teamwork
    Interdisciplinary Consultation and Teamwork: Participates in interdisciplinary care by developing collaborative relationships with team members. Provides interdisciplinary team leadership and direction in conceptualization of complicated cases. Draws on theoretical and empirical knowledge and ties conceptualization to treatment planning. Independently and consistently provides effective consultation on a broad range of topics and with a variety of consultees. Possesses or independently seeks adequate knowledge to respond to requests for consultation from other members of the interdisciplinary team.
    Maintains ongoing communication with interdisciplinary team members regarding patient status and follow-up.
    Regularly attends and participates actively in interdisciplinary team meetings. Assumes leadership role in interdisciplinary conference by initiating and facilitating communication.
    Consults with other departments as appropriate to provide for an interdisciplinary approach to the patient's needs.
    Provides and/or facilitates formal/informal staff education regarding psychosocial issues such as diagnosis, treatment plans, developmental issues, cultural issues, issues of sexuality, crisis intervention, bereavement, life adjustment, psychiatric issues and interventions for target populations.
    Upon request, serves as a hospital representative at presentations, speaking requests, and media events and can act as a resource to the community.
  • Clinical Program Development
    Designs, develops, and maintains quality programs for patients and staff and monitors these programs to ensure their effectiveness in collaboration with the unit leadership.
    Demonstrates independent ability to identify and implement relevant program evaluation approaches in a manner that is well-received by team.
    Demonstrates advanced understanding of program evaluation theories/models/methods.
    Actively involved in planning/monitoring/evaluating clinical programming in inpatient and/or outpatient arenas.
    Collaborates with interdisciplinary team to establish and sustain high quality programs appropriate to short-stay/high acuity parameters associated with psychiatric patient population.
    Collaborates with interdisciplinary team to evaluate patient outcomes.
    Demonstrates initiative and skill in applying theories and methods of program evaluation and uses results to inform ongoing program development and evaluation.
    May seek, develop and implement plans for grants and/or research opportunities.
  • Clinical Supervision
    Provides supervision to psychology trainees and consultative supervision to BHS staff as appropriate to ensure the quality of their professional development and services provided to patients.
    Serves as Clinical Supervisor for psychology practicum student(s), intern(s) and/or fellow(s).
    Provides didactic training, modeling, and consultation to BHS staff, as appropriate, to enhance BHS staff members ability to provide individualized patient care.

  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional-development-Required
  • Expertise in CBT, DBT, ACT, group therapy and the Recovery Model-Preferred
  • Experience supervising/training psychology students/interns/fellows-Preferred
