JOB SUMMARY
The Autopsy Tech assists pathologists with autopsies as well as the accepting, processing, and releasing of deceased persons. Operates and maintains laboratory instrumentation as well as records and documentation.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE
- Prepares instruments and equipment for pathologists performing autopsies.
- Prepares decedents for autopsy as well as assists in the performance of autopsies including organ weighing, specimen collection, preservation, and storage.
- Lifts and transports decedents within building by hand and/or equipment.
- Transports collected specimens to the Laboratory for testing.
- Performs sanitation and housekeeping duties in the examining room and morgue.
- Maintains logs, blocks, slides, and other materials.
- Assist in overseeing activities and education of Residents in the autopsy area.
- Operates, troubleshoots, and maintains morgue instrumentation.
