The Associate Director, Admissions & Coordinator of Multicultural Recruitment will provide expertise and leadership for initiatives related to the recruitment and enrollment of multicultural students. Collaborating with key stakeholders within and outside the College, this individual will focus on diversity recruitment and facilitate the admissions process for prospective students and their families, aiming to enhance Emerson College's community of scholars. The role involves managing all aspects of recruiting prospective students, including extensive personal contact with prospects and educational professionals, ensuring a seamless and supportive experience throughout the admissions journey.This position will be based in Boston, MA, and requires extensive domestic travel. Evening and weekend work will also be required.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
- Develop and implement effective recruitment and outreach plans to recruit a highly qualified and diverse pool of students to apply to the university.
- Participate as a member of the Undergraduate Admission team, requiring high levels of independent judgment.
- Review and analyze multiyear demographic and enrollment trend reports to plan and implement targeted recruitment activities for the undergraduate admission team in relation to diverse populations.
- Collaborate regularly with Undergraduate Leadership (associates, director, and dean) to assist in planning and implementing recruitment strategies for diverse populations.
- Manage special projects and develop new and creative programs to enhance prospect development. Portfolio responsibilities include coordinating programming for and recruiting multicultural and underrepresented students through ECCS, the Fall Fly-In Program, Perspectives Overnight programs, and more.
- Manage, train, and distribute tasks across our student workers, the Diversity Outreach Interns (DOIs).
- Coordinate and establish the development of new relationships with Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) while ensuring continued relationships with established partners.
- Manage and coordinate college-organized admission boot camps.
- Manage and coordinate undergraduate admissions relationships with all Emerson Pipeline programs, including EmersonWrites and EmersonTheatre.
- Participate in debriefing exercises to assess the success of recruitment and outreach efforts. Help identify new ways of reaching prospective applicants and gathering contact information.
- Represent the College at career and college fairs, community-based organizations, high school recruitment presentations, community college recruitment presentations, and special recruitment and yield events.
- Convey key institutional messages to prospective applicants and parents. Serve in a public relations and information role with prospective applicants, parents, and high school counselors. Demonstrate how the institution can help meet prospective applicants’ academic and career goals.
- Cultivate professional relationships and serve as the institution's primary admissions contact with school counselors, independent counselors, community-based organizations, and other influencers in the assigned territory.
- Liaison to on-campus departments (e.g., ArtsEmerson/Office of the Arts, etc.) and off-campus organizations (e.g., ProArts Consortium) to help increase the number and quality of applications.
- Develop and strengthen relationships with local alum organizations to supplement recruiting efforts in the region.
- Be an active member and serve on professional committees for regional admissions organization(s).
- Help ensure the admission of a highly qualified first-year class by actively participating in the evaluation and selection process.
- Read first-year applications utilizing a holistic approach to determine admissions eligibility by evaluating academic and non-academic credentials based on established criteria.
- Make admission decision recommendations on applicants who apply to the college using high levels of independent judgment.
- Analyze, make recommendations, and participate in the holistic decision-making process on candidates whose applications need further review.
QUALIFICATIONS – Qualifications are deemed required or preferred and represent what is needed to perform the job effectively.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
- 4+ years of admissions experience or related experience in college advising, including roles such as School Counselor, ELL Counselor, or CBO Counselor.
- Demonstrated understanding and commitment to the undergraduate experience, preferably at a small liberal arts institution.
- Previous experience with a student information system, preferably Technolutions Slate.
- A valid driver's license is required.
- Bilingual ability preferred.

- Ability to read and holistically analyze applications, high school transcripts, recommendations, and more, utilizing high levels of independent judgment.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, prioritize and achieve goals and objectives.
- Ability to create and execute innovative admissions programs.
- Excellent attention to detail and organization skills, with the ability to set priorities and meet deadlines.
- Commitment to working in a diverse environment and interacting collegially with individuals of different backgrounds.
- Knowledge of Excel, Word, and PowerPoint

- Monday – Friday 8:45 AM to 5:00 PM Eastern. (Hybrid Schedule)
- Extensive travel is required, with a minimum of 12-14 weeks per year, including the possibility of international travel.
- Flexibility to work on weekends and evenings, as needed.
