The mission of the Office of Undergraduate Admissions is to achieve an optimal annual enrollment of new first-year and transfer undergraduate students. Successful candidates will be staff members that can work with their colleagues to help meet the mission of the Office of Admissions in serving and supporting our racially and ethnically diverse campus community.
Position Summary
As a member of the Office of Admission professional staff, the Admission Counselor, Diversity Recruitment Coordinator, will assist in meeting the new student enrollment goals of the University by being its representative at both on and off campus recruitment programs and by making admission decisions on undergraduate applicants. Added responsibilities include coordinating diversity recruitment programming and communication specific to traditionally under-served students and with community-based organizations. This counselor will be integral in advancing relationships across the region in support of the University's goals for equity, diversity and inclusion.This position is located on campus in Bridgewater, MA. This position is eligible for hybrid / remote work in accordance with BSU remote work policy.
This is a full-time, 12-month APA position and is subject to the terms of that union agreement.
Essential Duties
- Develop and execute the strategy and logistics to represent the University at various recruitment events, both on and off campus, and disseminate appropriate information in a timely fashion about BSU to prospective students, current applicants, their family members and other interested parties. Includes frequent travel as well as evening and weekend work.
- Provide recommendations to the Dean of Admission for deepening admission related regional engagement and support of prospective students from traditionally under-served communities.
- Work under the direction of the Dean of Admission to implement the University's diversity recruitment efforts, including outreach programming on campus and off for prospective under-served students and their families.
- Assist in the preparation and/or updating of recruitment communication plans specific to under-served students, including printed admission materials, web sites and other electronic communication platforms.
- Demonstrate in daily work activities the incorporation of new information/learnings and processes into the recruiting conversations with potential students. Remain current with BSU's programs, new industry-wide trends and developments.
- Provide excellent client services and relations (internally and externally). As the first contact for prospective students and their families with the University, it is imperative to offer excellent service and professionalism when dealing with these constituents as they navigate the admission process.
- Maintain admission files, track applications, maintain up-to-date information in the University's Client Relationship Management (CRM) and SIS (Banner) systems.
- Communicate regularly with prospective students during the application process, advising them on outstanding or deficient items and timelines to submit materials.
- Participate in the review and decision making of student admission applications in a timely manner, maintaining admission files in accordance with procedures, and verifying decision status for inquiring applicants.
- Maintain the integrity of the student database (admissions to permanent records) in order to ensure complete and accurate records.
- Generate reports for the Dean of Admissions regarding recruiting tasks and programs in a timely fashion as well as other reports when requested.
- Assist the Dean of Admissions to formulate and meet enrollment and assigned travel territory goals.
- Consistently create a positive enrollment experience for prospective and admitted students. Demonstrate enthusiasm and advocacy for BSU in all interactions.

Required Qualifications

- Minimum of 1-year professional experience or equivalent combination of relevant part-time experiences
- Participation in extra-curricular activities while in college, including but not limited to recruitment, student involvement, and student services
- Bi-lingual
- Ability to communicate clearly and make a positive impression on prospective students, their parents, high school counselors, and partners at community-based organizations
- Ability to understand and present essential information about the University and its programs to a diverse array of audiences
- Sensitivity and commitment to issues of access, equity and inclusion as it relates to prospective students, their families and campus colleagues
- Must be able to represent the organization in a professional manner, recruit and work within a diverse community
- Ability to follow all policies and procedures with a keen attention to detail
- Excellent communication and listening abilities, strong critical thinking skills, strong professional writing, public speaking, interpersonal and public relations skills
- Detail oriented, ability to organize, prioritize, and complete detailed work under deadlines
- Possess and display excellent judgment and be able to maintain confidentiality in dealing with the personal information of others
- Willingness and ability to engage in regular evening and weekend work is required as well as extensive travel that may include multiple overnight stays
- Valid driver's license
- Ability to lift and carry 30 lbs. and set up a simple display
Preferred Qualifications
- Bi-lingual-Spanish or Portuguese
- Enthusiasm for the mission of public higher education
- Knowledge of BSU programs and culture
- Demonstrated adaptability and flexibility
